The first song I heard this morning before our day started was one by Taylor Swift (who happens to be my niece, living in Springville Utah, by the way. Well, almost anyway. Hi Hannah!).
Here’s the song I heard: THIS song by Taylor Swift. It’s a tribute to her mother for loving and supporting her in all she has done in her life. The song is called “The Best Day”.
After I heard the song, I thought ‘today I’ll make Tanner’s Day the Best Day’, just like in the song.
A friend of mine invited us to a dragon dance during her high school daughter’s school assembly.
I had no idea how much Tanner would love these Dragons!! There were two of them, that danced in the school auditorium in front of hundreds and hundreds of high school students.
Tanner stood up and cheered and called for the Dragon/Lion Dancer to come to him. Of course, he was over looked in the masses of adults teens and children in attendance. When the dragon left, Tanner cried the sweetest little tears for his Lion Dancing friends.
Then, at the end of the assembly, they announced the Lion Dancers would do one last performance.
Tanner was ecstatic!!
All 0f the sudden I remembered going to a lion dance and seeing people flapping red envelopes at the Dragons, and the Dragon taking the money filled envelopes through their mouths.
Back to the assembly: They marched in with the loud drums, and Tanner’s little voice once again called for them amidst the loudness of the crowd of hundreds.
I quickly took out a 100 rmb bill out of my wallet, and had Tanner wave it in the air.
The best part? 4 year old Tanner had no idea what was in store for him at that moment!
The dragon dancer saw the money waving in the massive crowd, and walked up a couple rows of the bleachers, and swooped down right to Tanner. Then the dragon opened his mouth, and swooped the cash out of Tanner’s little fingers, while the whole crowd watched.
It was a ‘Best Day’ moment in the life of little Tanner, he was laughing and jumping all at once. Afterward we got to meet the dancers, and they let Tanner feel the eyelashes lining the eyelids that opened and closed. He got to feel the fur and every other little intricacy.
Happy ‘Best Day’ Tanner. And thanks to Taylor Swift for writing such a beautiful song about how moms can make any day a ‘Best Day’!
Now you go out and make a best day with your child today :), as per my niece “Taylor Swift, I-Carley, Hannah”.
