I'm actually writing this post in 2014, nearly 4 years later. Tanner is still 4 in these pictures, and now he is 8! At this age here, he didn't have a strong diagnosis for his ADHD and other learning disabilities (sensory processing, auditory processing, exec function etc). All we knew is for some reason, some things just did not stick. We had worked on ABCs over and over, and they would just slip right out.
Here is our creative rendition to letter recognition.
I printed XL letters, Tim had them posted all over the house. I printed some for the street one day. we poured water on them so they wouldnt fly away.
Explained the rules to the boys:
There is a "caller" "runner" and a "catcher".
The caller has to yell a letter.
The runner finds the letter, and runs for dear life to stand on the letter before they are caught.
So there is letter recognition from both the caller and the runner. The caller got to call a letter and try to get the runner to run the furthest away so he could be caught!
Sometimes we gave clues in the beginning.
And of course, even though the neighborhood looks American, the locals still got a kick of what weird things foreigners do. Oh the extreme measures we go through for the sake of our children.
And Hunter has learned a traditional Chinese pose. lol!
Who knew learning could be so fun?
As they started to catch on, I gave them more of a challenge- I ran faster, lol. Why do I look so tired in this picture? Side note: July 10th in shanghai humidity?
Never to let my kids win out of mercy... they had to earn it!
Scheming boys... lol, they were working me!
The caller.
Spinning...
More spinning.
Tann, now 8 years old, is reading, writing etc. How proud we are of all of his efforts, starting at 4!
