The Little Dudes

Since it's Summer (too hot to play outside w/o being in water, and the mosquitoes are violent out here), we've resorted to some indoor fun. We have started our nap time routine early, and I let the boys pick as many books as they want me to read before they go down. Luckily, it's only been up to 6. Our longest stretch was 45 minutes... which I wouldn't even have noticed had the clock not been in the same room where we read books. It's been fun. Tanner only stays for the first two books, then I hear him around other parts of the house running around. I'm working on getting him engaged in the books more w/o boring Hunter.

The other morning (actually 2 mornings in a row) we've woken up to hearing Hunter reading to Tanner. He tells him the story and does what I do to get Tanner to pay attention "Where's the lady bug? Look Tann, it's the puppy. Puppy. Puppy". It's heart melting. Especially b/c he's not just doing it for the approval of his parents. He was having fun with Tanner.

Another cute thing...

The other day Tanner had a very concerned look on his face when he came to me with a cup in his hand. His brow was furled and he repeatedly said "MaYi, MaYi". MaYi is Chinese for "ant". I kept thinking of all the things he could be meaning. The cup was empty, so he couldn't be talking about juice or water. The cup was pink... I kept filing though all the options to try to get what he was saying. He was getting annoyed with me.

Then with one little pointer finger he pointed inside the cup and said again "MaYi" as he showed me the tiniest little ant that was crawling around inside the cup. Cute that he wanted to share that with me.

It's so cool your kids are learning Chinese. If you ever come across some good materials on how to teach kids Chinese, would you let me know. We just found a fun DVD at the library call "Ni Hao Little Friends." It's pretty low budget but Mia likes it. I'll do my best to get her ready for when we MOVE OUT THERE! Love you and glad you got the song!
