Canal Walk-about

Every weekday from 3:00-5:00PM, I take the boys out for "Discovery Time". You've heard of the phrase "Walk-About" in Australia, how people loose themselves in the walk? Well here's today's down-under experience in our own neck of the bush. We walked the canal next to our house-- here's what we came across:

1. The Police cars trying to catch a theif.
2. This place is landscaped, perfect for the lady there practicing Tai Chi.
3. We saw probably 3 old chinese couples walking very close together. One couple had the elderly wife in a wheelchair, the husband, too old to push her, had the Ayi pushing her and they chatted and laughed together.
4. An old man passed us on a bike. Wasn't sure if his eyes worked at his very old age, but his legs sure did.
5. Tanner fell oh, 'bout a million times or so, each time looking up with his lip hanging out ready to burst into tears. Like any boy mom would do, I reply "yah Tanner! Way to go! Good job, now go run run run". At the which time, he looks over both shoulders, doesn't even dust his hands and bolts off like a bullet after Hunter.
6. We come across some landscaped boulders, Hunter hops down from one to help Tanner's shorter legs up top... sooo sweet.
7. Next, we walk along a stepping stone path, and the boys start running again. Tanner runs into some drooping twigs covering half of the path. Instead of running around them as Hunter did, he blazes right through them. I heard him laughing really loudly, then notice that the bushes hit him right along his ticklish neck line. He was crimping his neck on one side and lifted his shoulder to his ear because it was so ticklish. Every time he came across these bushes, he never ran around them, he must've liked being tickled.
8. Hunter carries a "where are you from/how old are you" conversation with a local woman.
9. At the end, their favorite part: The fishermen. There all day, with a huge net at the end of 4 crossing bamboo poles... they catch 6-7 four inch big "Carp"-- to sell as feeder fish to Turtle owners. Every time they see us, they get their "bowl" out with the days loot of Carp in it. After countless times of showing the boys how to catch them by hand, today Hunter did it! I'll post pictures...

It is a 10 minute walk, but seems my boys like it more in two hours... and I don't blame 'em.

Fun stuff. Can't wait to be a stay-at-home mom again. One day...then, we'll have traditional discovery time too. Such a good idea.
