Todd, Nate, Dulcey, Tim and I took a trip to Beijing and hiked the Great Wall.
Our guide offered to take us to a non-restored part of the wall. It was not illegal, just not known to the public. Most of the wall was covered by foliage, it was so natural, and it was nice to have that little portion of the 3,000 mile long wall to ourselves.
The goal: to make it to the top of the mountain. Do you see the cream colored lining along the top? That's the Great Wall. It is said a life was lost per each brick that went into that wall.
Dulcey and I making it to the top of the mountain to the Great Wall. It was said to be a 6 mile hike. It was all uphill, so it was a workout! I couldn't imagine carrying bricks up there in the construction!
We made it to the top!! This is Dulcey and Nate. We ended up hiking to the peak behind them in this picture. From what we could see, it was the highest peak in our panoramic view.
This is a cool picture of the eroded wall. The tour guide is on the left, and Tim on the right.
That's Todd in the middle of the picture, with his arms up. We could hear eachother clearly from whatever part of the wall we were on. It was very quiet up there! We were at the other tower when we took this picture, and Todd yelled "Okay, take it again, I think I blinked." LOL
Dulcey and I trekking it up one portion of the stairs. Each of the blocks were different sizes.
This is some pottery Todd found. Thousands of years old.
Group photo at top.
The view from up top. We kept hiking until we reached the highest point. Majestic. There was a serene spirit that filled this supreme piece of history. The lives that were buried here. The steeper side of the wall on the Mongolian side, the Watch Towers, the Pottery, unforgettable.
Grateful Friday
