Today was Hunter's first day at YaoHua Chinese private school. Tanner and I decided to join him. We actually came for the first 1/12 hours, then at lunch time, and a half hour before he got out. The school is soooo loving to the children, and tell us we can come at any time to pick the kids up.
Tann didn't mind being there. They had toys, it was set up like a Montessori classroom, with stations the kids could rotate around. Breakfast/snack was the first area. Here's Hunter with his classmates.
"so, let me tell you about me. I fly spaceships."
the response: "ching chong chong". Funny how kids talk to each other still, even though they can't understand each other. Hunter already knows enough Chinese to get around. So he's sooo excited to be at YaoHua.
Singing time. The girls sang to the boys, then the boys to the girls. This was clever, then they could watch each other better to learn all the hand motions.
There are 9 boys and 7 girls that I counted.
Lining up to go!
Hunter laughed and played all day. This was the one time when he got a little intimidated by all his classmates. They are so very thrilled to have him (Caucasians are rare, and he's the only one in his class). They got really noisy and cheered him when the teacher formally introduced him and told the class he was going to be a part of their class.
He doesn't like too much public attention (Tanner does though!), and the welcoming scared him a bit. So he stepped to the back of the room (see below picture). But after the picture, he was laughing with them again.
So I distracted them with my camera. Aren't they sooo cute? They were so fun! I couldn't believe that most of them were 5 and six years old. Hunter is one of the tallest in his class!
They eat so gourmet! Here the cooks are making pot stickers from scratch for the entire school. They don't just eat one thing. They usually have like 5+ things given to them. It really is a posh Chinese school. They have a glass display case in the front entrance displaying a sample plate of what was served to the children that day. It looks like it belongs in a restaurant!
