Neighbor Gift: Quick, Cheap, Easy, Practical, Thoughtful...

Confession: I've never given holiday treats/gifts to friends and neighbors. Never. Imagine how I cringe every time the doorbell rings this time of year, and I have nothing to give in return.

This year, I'm giving away SOCKS. And maybe you want to join me in on this.

Here's what the finished product will look like:

Supplies need:
--Socks ($1 bins at Target/Walmart)
--Double sided tape ($1, but only have to buy once)
--Cardstock (the huge pack @ walmart is cheap)
--Printer ink (if your husband's in the finance industry he'd count that)

Click HERE for the words to the poem, and meaning behind it. Print the poem in 4 columns (I just made a vertical text box and copied and pasted it 3 more times, so you can get 4 per page to save paper). The image above the poem (the Lord washing feet) is from a google search: Click HERE.

Fold the poem to make 4 creases (so it wraps nicely around the socks).
I folded mine after the following lines (see below picture):
1st fold: "Of He who knows"
2nd fold: "Making men whole"
3rd fold: "And dwell on these things"
4th fold: "Right down to their feet"
Don't forget to put your double sided tape on (see it in the picture below?).

Roll your socks up (below).

Wrap cardstock around rolled socks, then stick the cardstock in place with the previously applied 2-sided tape.

Use raffia or ribbon. Thread it between socks and cardboard, then up to the top to tie at the top of the poem. This method will keep the socks from sliding out on the sides while stabilizing where the tie is on top of the cardstock.

It will look like this from the sides (below).
That, or get some socks, and slap the poem on the side and tie them together with a bow. That or you can re-gift the treats the last neighbor left. The fruit cake. There's one for re-passing along. And of course, I've never done that. No not ever.

I think these look great! I wish I had some fruitcake to drop by for you in exchange for some socks.

This just proves that you don't do anything part way. You have a gift to be able to make even a pair of socks look good. I wish I had taken a picture of you at the children's market digging through all those socks to find just the right ones and then pile at the counter...the bags as you walked out... And thanks for sharing how to make them. The rest of us just want to walk in your socks someday...they are pretty big socks to fill. (not literally, of course!) ;)

Such a great idea -- I love it. Anyhow here is how you post you-tube. At the corner of the you tube page -- you will see a box that has the url and another box that says embed - copy that link and put it in the text box of the blog and post -- simple. Love ya.
