The Socks Poem: "Soles and Souls"

***See the next post for a pictures of how to make a quick/inexpensive neighbor gift with Socks and this poem. BTW I finished writing/editing it on the 25th wedding anniversary of my Dad and Bonus-Mom, unplanned, but cool that it happened that way.
Soles and Souls
Let these socks comfort
Your hard-working toes,
And remind you often
Of He who knows--

How to lift the burden
They’re called to bear;
He strengthens your vessel
From the simplest prayer.

Though He was perfect;
Making men whole,
He stooped down low
To wash many-a “sole”.

So wear these socks
As a thought for you,
That He who washed feet
Cleanses hearts too.

And because He would hold
Our dirtiest of feet,
How He must love
The whole soul complete.

Let your life be His message
And dwell these things,
Your feet following
The King of Kings.

Now when you find “Souls”
Whether whole, or beat-
Hold them and love them
Right down to their feet.

The story behind the poem...

I was preparing a lesson for our amazing-already Young Women to teach that Sunday. I thought it would be totally appropriate to teach the symbolism of Christmas things. Especially since we have so many cultures that celebrate Christmas in so many ways.

You know the symolisms ie--
Candy cane: Shepherd's crook
Fir tree: Always green, everlasting life
etc.

But I could never find one for "Stockings". Does anyone know this one? I couldn't find it anywhere on the web. So all the "feet" scriptures came to mind (like Jesus washing feet etc).

symbolism of FEET:
-carry burden (weight of the whole body)
-obedient (they follow)
-lowly (lowest part of the body)

symbolism of SOCKS:
-Warmth
-Protection
-Keep you clean

Socks represent the gifts of the Atonement of the Savior.
The FEET represent the life of the Savior.

Maybe it's too far of a stretch? Thanks for reading. I had some great editors and sounding ears to bounce it off of before it finally came together (thanks to my wonderful family of punctuation/grammar gurus and natural poets).

This is Trisha Buhrley Lee's sister-in-law (and your ex-practically-a-neighbor in wonderful Castle Rock, CO), Gretchen. I found your blog through Trisha's and I'm totally using your poem at some time in my life (Christmas, Visiting Teaching, whatever excuse I can find). I LOVE it. You are too talented. Thank you for sharing!
